I use peppers for various stuffed pepper recipes, but now and then I use them for centerpieces or place-setting containers. Here are some filled with gatherings at hand, the Christmas greens, hips from old roses (Madam de Corbet Blanc), rugosa, and wild; pigeon berries on our property; sages like the Berggarten from Germany’s Hanover Gardens, tri-colored, and other sages; thymes; and perhaps cedar twigs.

This is a picture of one of my crazy containers—an old pair of my shoes tucked into my woodland garden. I wish I had taken pictures this summer of the old moss-covered cement blocks used in the same area, filled with ferns or violets. Maybe next year.

My most unusual containers are old chairs. The worn, wood one includes chives, scented geraniums, lemon thyme, rosemary, oregano, parsley, and purple cabbage.
