Lavender has many therapeutic properties that help to relax the body during stressful situations. Aromatic lavender tea can help with problems such as headaches, low spirits, muscle tension and nervous debility. Taking an infusion of lavender after a hard day at home or work can carry your worries away. It also can induce a peaceful, blissful slumber for those who have trouble falling asleep. As an infusion, it combines well with rosemary, skullcap or chamomile. Lavender’s purple-flowering blossoms have long been picked, dried and placed in cupboards as sachets, or used to deter insects. Marshmallow has delicate pink flowers and is hard to find commercially, but it can be grown at home. It has a cool, sweet character and is an effective yet gentle cough expectorant.
2 teaspoons lavender flowers and/or leaves
2 teaspoons marshmallow flowers, leaves and/or roots
2 cups boiling water
Combine lavender and marshmallow in a warmed ceramic or glass teapot. Add boiling water, cover and let steep for 10 minutes. Strain and drink hot. Drink up to 3 cups a day as needed.
