Cool and refreshing, mint stimulates the senses and lifts the mood. According to Greek mythology, this aromatic herb once was the beautiful nymph Minthe, beloved by Pluto. Legend has it, Pluto’s jealous wife Persephone transformed Minthe into a low-growing plant. Pluto, however, made sure the herb would not be forgotten—he gave mint a delightfully sweet fragrance that is released whenever it is walked upon.

Many people grow mountain mint for use as an insect repellent....
Today, we value mint not only for its fragrance, but also for its flavor and healing power. Mint is a welcome addition to many dishes and makes a refreshing tea used to aid digestion, treat colds and even cure hiccups. In cosmetic and bath products, mint is used as a skin soother, deodorizer and cleanser.
Here are several easy and refreshing mint beauty recipes to try. If you use dried mint, remember to reduce the amount: 1 tablespoon dried equals 3 tablespoons fresh.
Orange Mint Toner
Makes 8 ounces
This toner will whisk away surface dirt, oil and dead skin cells. Mint leaves are rich in iron and menthol, which help tighten pores, giving your complexion a smoother look and feel. Citrus can help restore skin pH level after cleansing.
Place mint leaves in a glass or ceramic bowl and crush them slightly to release their natural oils. Add orange peel.
Pour boiling water over leaves and peel and allow it to cool completely.
Strain orange-mint water to remove all solids. Stir in witch hazel and pour into a clean container.
To use, apply to skin with a clean cotton pad after cleansing. Or, pour it into a spray bottle and use all over your body after bathing.
Mint Body Lotion

Fresh mint is an instant energizer; its scent alone instantly can elevate your mood. This easy-to-make lotion can be used after bathing to refresh and energize your whole body. Any mint variety (or combination) will work in this recipe.
